John watched the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace when he was four years old.rnSixty-two years later he played Buckingham in Shakespeare's "Richard III." He filled some of the time in between by living in Tanzania, learning to fly fish, riding his bicycle across the U.S., becoming a translator of Japanese plays, getting a PhD at UCLA, and teaching English in Japan, Theatre at colleges and universities in California, and Exceptional Children in North Carolina. Along the way he has also done a bunch of acting, directing, backstage work, and playwriting.
